LENA HOSCHEK’S HOMAGE TO PIROSCHKA
The choice of music felt like you were part of a Hungarian folk festival as it was very traditional and fast. The models scurried over the runway, looking like they stepped out of the 1955 German movie „Ich denke oft an Piroschka“ with their braided hair and big flower crowns, which were handmade solely for the show by the Austrian label „miss lillys hats“. As the title might suggest, the most dominant color was definitely red, seeing as the girls wore red lace up heels, boots and of course had red lips and nail polish.
Being a regular of Berlin Fashion Week for more than seven years already, Lena Hoschek has always stayed true to her line and her love for femininity, pin-up’s and rock n’ roll style. Howeverthere was one significant difference this year: the designer displayed lots of circumfluous and bohemian inspired dresses. The cuts were looser and more playful yet still emphasising the waist, the tiny belts seemingly the only thing holding everything in place. Since floral patterns are a part of Hoscheks fashion identity, the dresses and blouses were covered with beautiful roses, lily-of-the-valley and margarite motives which added a more romantic and soft touch to the collection. As a lover of details, rich embroideries decorated the looks and were made by hand in her atelier in Vienna. From ruffled off-the-shoulder blouses to light knitwear pullovers and crochet vests, there was everything a modern boho-woman could ever dream of. Additionally to her typical circle skirts and lace blouses, Hoschek also made her debut in creating high waisted shorts. To top if off, everything was worn with lavish jewelry, mostly made out of brass.
The show was charming in many ways and after showing her bridal lace dress with red, white and blue ribbons, it got even sweeter. The designer announced her pregnancy at her last show in January and since the due date was this week, she stayed at home and apologized for her absence by having her models walking down the runway with signs showing off herself and her baby bump and quotes such as „sorry, we prefer to stay at home“ or „proud of my team.“ Hoscheks defilé was outstanding and lovely, making it even harder for the other designers to surpass her show.
